Overview

The Carter Agency, an award-winning public relations firm, specializes in innovative, results-oriented public relations campaigns. We manage media relations campaigns for clients who are planning and developing comprehensive media awareness programs. We coordinate outreach activities which include evaluation and recommendation of strategies for our clients’ projects. We develop strategic communications plans for clients. We assign and monitor relationships with independent contractors (photographers, creative directors, film producers). We plan and execute special events for clients. We provide clients with publicity, media coaching, writing, and reputation management services.

History

Established in 2002.

The Carter Agency was established after the Managing Director, Ron Carter, left Quincy Jones’ Qwest Records to chart his journey as an entrepreneur. Over the last 23 years, The Carter Agency has represented clients in consumer marketing, technology, entertainment, non-profit, sports and celebrity arenas. Clients over the years included civil rights organization Los Angeles Urban League, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated, developer Dorn Platz, sports legend Evel Knievel, and Walmart.

Business Owner

Ron Carter is Managing Director of The Carter Agency. He was the former Senior Director of Media Relations for Quincy Jones’ Qwest Records where he represented Quincy Jones, Ray Charles, Tamia, The Clayton Brothers, and Tevin Campbell among others. Additionally, Carter handled Publicity for Warner Bros Records representing Chaka Khan, Joshua Redman, Ice-T, Earth, Wind & Fire, and George Benson among others.

Carter currently sits on the board of Pasadena City College Foundation, Zeta National Educational Foundation, and Pasadena Sister Cities Committee and is also the former president of the North Lake Village Business Association in Pasadena, CA. Formerly, he held former board seats on Pasadena Chamber of Commerce (Treasurer), National Association of Black Journalists – Los Angeles Chapter (Treasurer), Save Africa’s Children, and One Community: A Grassroots Think Tank (Co-Chairman). Carter’s past also includes being the Manager of Publicity for Warner Bros Records.

He began his music industry career at Motown Records as Assistant to the Executive Director of Press & Publicity. He later was named Executive Assistant to the Vice President of Communications, Michael Jackson’s MJJ Productions. He also served as Media Relations Publicist for Polygram Records and Director of Publicity for Mercury Records. Prior to his career in the music business, Carter was a Trust Administrator for Bank of America in Los Angeles. He also served as an Internal Auditor for Chase Manhattan Bank in New York.
